Pop-Up Cat Café Promotes Cat Adoption in NYC

Now through Sunday, Purina ONE® will operate a pop-up café on the Bowery featuring free coffee, espresso drinks and cats from the North Shore Animal League. Yesterday, I stood in line among plenty of cat ladies—and men—for nearly two hours to visit with these adorable, adoptable cats.

When I finally got to the front of the line, I entered through the café room where baristas were handing out drip coffee and snacks. The woman making latte and cappuccino art was on her break, but I spotted a few cups brimming with impressive foam cats. I chose a blueberry muffin from their selection of pastries and headed into the cat lounge.

There were only 16 cats in the room and approximately 65 people allowed in at a time, according to Purina ONE®’s website. To get some face time with the cat of your choice, you may have to wait a little longer—or lure a feline to you with one of the many cat toys scattered about the space. Fall in love with a new furry friend? Representatives from the North Shore Animal League are on hand to help you adopt one for yourself.

Visit the café this weekend at 168 Bowery or watch the cats on a live video steam at livestream.com/PurinaONE/CatCafe.
