John Varvatos Celebrates Newest Location With Powerful Photo Exhibition

Westfield World Trade Center, a high-end retail destination, is opening to the public on Tuesday, Aug. 16. Its centerpiece, the Oculus—designed by acclaimed Spanish architect Santiago Calatrava—houses dozens of luxury shops for apparel, accessories and technology, as well as notable dining and to-go options, and is also a transportation hub connecting to 13 subway lines and the PATH train.

John Varvatos, the menswear line that highlights a stylish collaboration of modern innovation with Old World craftsmanship, is proud to open its latest location on the main level of this state-of-the-art facility. In honor of this occasion, Designer John Varvatos and Westfield World Trade Center have worked together on a digital exhibition with powerful photographs from artist/photographer Karsten Staiger.

Varvatos recognizes the significance of this massive new port where residents, daily commuters and global travelers will pass through by the millions each year, standing proudly where there was once unfathomable tragedy and chaos. “This represents a strong message of love to all the lives lost and affected by 9/11,” he said. “We will celebrate our city with [Staiger’s] striking imagery.”

The exhibition, “From New Heights,” features original photographs taken from the soaring heights of various NYC building rooftops. This artwork will be presented on Westfield World Trade Center’s digital signage network comprised of 19 large screens with more than 25 million LED pixels, as well as a 100-yard screen situated below the base of One World Trade Center. “From New Heights” is shown at Westfield’s entrance beneath the Westside Highway, proceeds beneath One World Trade Center and concludes at the four-story elevator screen inside of Four World Trade Center.

German-born Staiger has been an artist in Manhattan for more than 20 years, doing aerial photography as well as commercial work. Regarded as a pioneer during the digital photography revolution of the late 1990s, he continues to use cutting-edge technology to capture stunning moments of the New York City skyline. “From New Heights” will be on display from Aug. 16 through the end of Sept.
