Sunday, September 11 marks the Grand Opening of the Grand Bazaar NYC on the Upper West Side. This weekly Sunday market, with free admission, runs from 10 am-5:30 pm year-round, indoors or outdoors.

This market actually began in 1982 as a sort of yard sale hosted by parents. As it got bigger each year, the yard sale morphed into the GreenFlea Market and that grew and grew until this latest incarnation—Grand Bazaar NYC. Now the largest curated market in the city, guests can find goods from 100+ merchants who sell handmade goods including fashion, jewelry, art and furniture. Artisanal foods like macaroons, pies, cupcakes, other sweet treats and savory eats are available as well among the stands.

In addition to the weekly happenings at the market, special events will be hosted throughout the year. On September 25, the Artisan Jewelry Bazaar will showcase wares from hand-picked jewelry makers. These talented artists, ranging from newbies to established designers, will have one-of-a-kind and limited edition pieces for sale.

Looking ahead, the Artisanal Sweet Treats Bazaar (October 23) will feature 25 business that will delight your taste buds with spiced pumpkin goodies, experimental ice cream sandwiches, truffles, chocolates and more. And for those of you who are already counting down to when you can deck your halls with boughs of holly, the Grand Holiday Bazaar NYC will get you in a festive mood every Saturday and Sunday in December (3-4, 10-11, 17-18 and December 24).

While there are several large-scale markets in the city, Grand Bazaar NYC is special because not only is it one of the oldest active markets, but it exists to fundraise for four neighboring public schools. Over 4,000 kids at PS 87, PS 334, PS 452 and The Computer School have enriched scholastic experiences with arts and sports programs, books, teaching assistants in classrooms and more with the money raised from the donation of 100% of the Grand Bazaar NYC’s net revenue. By supporting the creative community of local artisans and designers, you are further engaging students in their education.
