Head to Coney Island for the Mermaid Parade Tomorrow

Summer officially starts on Sunday, June 21, and what better way to kick of the season than by checking out a parade? Those in the festive spirit are in luck—the 2015 Mermaid Parade will take place in Brooklyn’s Coney Island tomorrow!

The annual bash, the largest art parade in the country, was founded by artists way back in 1983 and each year features thousands of creative minds decked out in mermaid costumes (naturally), as well as other sea creature ensembles—a shout out to the neighborhood’s mythologically named streets like “Neptune” and “Mermaid.”

Comparable to a Mardi Gras festival, the parade will start at 1 p.m. at W. 21st St. and Surf Ave. and end at Steeplechase Plaza. Make sure to head to Coney Island tomorrow to see cool costumes (and maybe get a few ideas for Halloween) and creative floats, devour a famed Nathan’s hot dog and be the first to know who gets crowned this year’s Queen Mermaid and King Neptune. Although tomorrow’s event will not include the Mermaid Parade Ball after party, parade-goers are encouraged to head to the Freak Bar, Gift Shop and see the Coney Island Circus Sideshow after the parade.
