A few months ago, I went to a bar in Williamsburg, Brooklyn with a few friends. I wasn’t familiar with the establishment, so when I was told the name a few days prior to going—it’s Barcade®by the way—I didn’t really think anything of it. As soon as I got into the bar and saw a sea of old school arcade games, it finally registered. “Ohhh, I get it: bar + arcade = Barcade®,” I exclaimed. My friends seemed amused. Yeah, sometimes I’m not the sharpest crayon in the box. The bar was started by a few college friends and definitely exudes that bar-around-the-corner-from-campus vibe. All of the games cost 25 cents and are incredibly retro (think Asteroids and Donkey Kong). Need change? There’s a change dispenser on the premises. From what I can tell, this is a beer bar—with quite an expansive list of the bubbly brew. Although there isn’t a kitchen, you can get food delivered and the folks at Barcade® even have a binder on hand with a list of neighborhood restaurants that deliver. Nice guys, right? The bar also has locations in Jersey City and Philadelphia.
