I absolutely love antiquing—digging through art, tapestries, and jewelry imbued with memories and history, examining details with hopes of finding something rare and one-of-a-kind is so exciting! For those who share my passion for art, you must explore Midtown East’s Manhattan Art and Antique Center, a three-level indoor mall of galleries filled with a wide assortment of antique finds. When I walked in, I was blown away by the sheer size of the space, which spans almost an entire city block. Antique shoppers could spend a day perusing the over 100 galleries packed into the Center.

Celebrating over 40 years in business, The Manhattan Art & Antiques Center is the nation’s largest antiquities warehouse representing America’s top dealers in every category of art and antiques and is a veritable trove of fascinating items for sale. On my visit, I was focused on finding some African art for my apartment, so I began my tour at the Hemingway African Gallery; Some of the pieces looked like a few of the costumes I used to wear when I performed in the Lion King. From beautifully beaded helmet masks and slippers to intricately-carved Cameroon wooden furniture, there seemed to be an endless collection of sculptures and fine art. My next stop was the Kenneth James Collection, which specializes in jewelry, perfume bottles, and boxes. This shop has beautiful vintage designer jewelry including a 1960’s TAKE OUT COMMA: 1960S Tiffany & Co. gold and sapphire bracelet and a Tiffany & Co. sterling silver hair comb by Angela Cummings that was such a perfect fit for my summer style, I couldn’t leave without it. I continued my self-guided tour of the center and found beautiful Asian art at the P.M. Tung gallery, and exquisitely-detailed bronze and crystal antique clocks from the late nineteenth century at the F & P Associates, Solomon Treasure, and Lev Tov Antique galleries.

The Manhattan Art and Antique Center is a must visit for antique and art lovers, collectors, interior decorators, or those just looking to be inspired by the beauty and history showcased here daily.  Hours are M-Sa 10:30 am- 6 pm, Su noon - 6 pm.
