‘Tis The Season At The Plaza and Saks Fifth Avenue

I’m a movie buff and have always been drawn to holiday films set in New York City. Of course this sprawling metropolis is breathtaking draped in a blanket of fresh snow—complete with holiday lights peppered throughout—but more than that, I’ve always loved how some of the city’s most iconic institutions can be seen decked out in festive decorations. If you are spending the holidays in New York, you can get an up-close-and-personal look at the venerable Plaza hotel’s holiday décor and festivities. The Plaza Christmas Tree takes center stage in the Fifth Avenue Foyer and features a collection of snowflake ornaments curated especially for The Plaza by Saks Fifth Avenue. You can view the tree while enjoying The Snowflake Tea—$60 per person or $82 per person with a choice of Champagne or Sherry, with a portion of each sale donated to Volunteers of America-Greater New York. Kids and kids at heart can even see Santa at the hotel through Christmas Eve. A number of photo packages, ranging from $29 to $99 are available at the hotel so you can take home your winter wonderland memories. Santa will be at the Plaza Mon. thru Fri., noon to 7 p.m.; Sat., 1:30 to 7 p.m.; and Sun., noon to 6 p.m. Also, every Friday throughout December, Eloise—from Eloise at The Plaza fame—is hosting a Rawther Fancy Tea with Santa. Guests are invited to The Eloise Shop for a tea party. After the meal, and writing letters to Eloise, kids visit Santa in his workshop where he reads a story (book provided by Eloise) and invites the children to take turns having their picture taken with him. Kids can take home the photos plus a favor bag from Eloise. The Rawther Fancy Tea with Santa takes place Dec. 6, 13 and 20 from 4 to 5 p.m. at Eloise at The Plaza, priced $150 per child and adult. Santa will appear at Saks Sat., Dec. 7, 12 and 21 from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m.
