Top Three Springtime Events in NYC
Spring officially started March 20, so it’s time for visitors and New Yorkers to shed the winter layers and start marking their calendars with a ton of worthwhile events happening in the next few weeks. Raphael Oliveira, concierge at JW Marriott Essex House New York, shares his top three events to usher in the warmer weather.
“I just love to walk around the parks in New York and stop and smell the flowers,” Oliveira says. “It is just refreshing to walk around the city and feel alive again—especially after a tough winter.” Oliveira suggests a stop at the Brooklyn Botanic Garden to see the lovely array of Cherry Blossoms.
For a tad bit more fast-paced fun, Oliveira recommends a trip to Shea Stadium Sun., April 19 at 3 p.m. for Mister Sunday—a series of parties organized and DJed by Eamon Harkin and Justin Carter. The duo also run Mister Saturday Night Records and host Mr. Saturday parties as well. “This is a very cool/trendy party for the ‘cool people’ who want a non-touristic party destination,” Oliveira says. “Mister Sunday is indeed an experience that’s truly fun and engaging for everyone involved—party people, DJs, bartenders and doormen alike.” The venues for the parties change frequently so check the Mister Saturday Night Facebook page for more information.
On Thurs., April 16 at 8 p.m., a viewing of the documentary Mary J. Blige – The London Sessions will take place on the Upper West Side’s Beacon Theatre as part of the Tribeca Film Festival. “This is a film that follows Mary J. Blige to London, where over 10 days she records her 13th studio album,” Oliveira says. “The film captures the pursuit of inspiration, wherever you can find it; and, I do find my inspiration in some of her songs, so I am definitely looking forward to seeing it.”
