Coney Island Mermaid Parade

A colorful mishmash of costumes delight observers as participants dressed as mermaids, Neptune, sea creatures and Coney Island landmarks, such as lighthouses and amusement park rides, float past in this 36th annual celebration, billed as the nation's largest art parade. This year Arlo Guthrie is King Neptune and Nora Guthrie is Queen Mermaid. Parade begins at 1 p.m. at W. 21st St. and Surf Ave. and continues east to W. 10th St. and Surf Ave., where it turns south to the boardwalk, then west to W. 17th St.
