“Many television shows are filmed in Manhattan, and attending a free taping of your favorite can provide a fun, behind-the-scenes glimpse. There are several methods for obtaining a place in the audience. Most shows, such as Good Morning America, offer advance tickets through their Web sites. Many programs (including Saturday Night Live) typically fill any open spots (or cancellation-related vacancies) via same-day standby tickets. Policies vary, but the last-minute seats can usually be obtained by calling the show’s ticket hotline.”
» NELSON DIAZ: New York Marriott Marquis
535 Broadway, btw W. 45th & W. 46th sts., 1.212.398.1900
“This season is a popular time for families to come into New York, but it can be challenging to find activities that suit everyone in the group. One solution that caters to all ages is an organized tour. Companies such as Gray Line or City Sights offer bus tours that allow visitors to see much of the city and hop off at various points of interest, such as the Empire State Building. Bike tours are another excellent option because families can get some exercise, be outdoors and sightsee all at once.”
» MAURICE DANCER: The Pierre, A Taj Hotel
2 E. 61st St., at Fifth Ave., 1.212.940.8108
“One of the city’s biggest draws is live theater. Those who enjoy the tradition of ‘standing on line’ for same-day reduced-price tickets to Broadway and Off-Broadway shows can visit the TKTS Discount Booths at W. 47th St. and Broadway, MetroTech Center in Brooklyn or the South Street Seaport in Lower Manhattan. The roof of the Times Square booth, comprised of 27 red glass steps, is a popular meeting place for visitors who want to enjoy a spectacular view of the heart of the city.”
» NOAH LEMEICHE: Thompson LES
90 Allen St., btw Stanton & E. Houston sts., 1.212.542.8690
“Spending time outdoors is a wonderful way to enjoy New York in the summer. New York Water Taxi has opened a brand-new beach area in the South Street Seaport, which is close to the World Financial Center and Hudson River Park. Within the park, atop Pier 40, is Trapeze School New York, where visitors can learn the acrobatic sport. Though the weather is warm, visitors should wear long sleeves and pants to allow for easy movement and comfort when landing on the safety net.”
