Skincare masques are a dime-a-dozen, containing everything from gold flakes to clay scraped from the shores of the Dead Sea. But a new entry from Kat Burki’s Raw Beauty line is more notable for what it doesn’t have than what it does. As in: no petroleum, no dyes, no parabens, no perfumes (all the items that can cause sensitive skin to go ballistic). Instead, the Hibiscus Antioxidant Face Mask is chockful of cranberry and blueberry fibers, hibiscus petals, rose hip and grapeseed oils. It also contains glycolic, latic and lipoic acids, so it acts as a peel, too—so no need to use a separate exfoliator first, as is often the case with do-it-yourself facials.
It sounds good enough to eat, almost, but we don’t recommend that. Instead, apply to face in generous amounts. White in color, the mask goes on noticeably light, with a pleasant fresh, faintly fruitish, aroma. (Burki began as an interior designer, so she’s sensitive to the influence of fragrance to mood). Ten minutes later, give or take, your visage will be all aglow.
