Luxury Handbags and More at A Second Chance

Luxury Handbags and More at A Second Chance

With New York Fashion Week right around the corner, I visited the trendiest luxury reseller in town—A Second Chance—to learn more about must-have items to accessorize any outfit.

A Second Chance, located on the Upper East Side and in SoHo, is a family-owned resale boutique that offers a generous selection of pre-owned designer handbags, jewelry, shoes, women’s apparel and more. These shops are home to one of the largest selections of Chanel, Hermès and Louis Vuitton in the city. While some items are gently used, others are brand new! Every item is 100% guaranteed authentic and handled with utmost care.

I asked Maria, owner of A Second Chance since she opened it in 1993, about her favorite statement pieces and what she recommends every woman should have to not only accent her wardrobe, but have fun with fashion.

Brooches are back! These ornaments are among the most versatile of accessories and are so much more than just a fancy pin you can wear on your coat or top. You can pin a brooch to your purse for a nice pop of color. A brooch can be attached to a headband or hat. You can wear a brooch over the top button of a button-up top. Brooches are great pieces for people looking to add a little extra something to their ensemble without committing to an entire article of clothing with a bold, repeating pattern.

With too small (or actual lack) of pockets on women’s pants, shorts, skirts and dresses, handbags are already a useful tool in a woman’s arsenal. Maria said that a good tote is great for a classic look—check out the Louis Vuitton Damier Neverfull! It’s as fashionable as it is functional, as you could definitely carry an extra set of shoes, as well as a light sweater or wrap in there for upcoming cooler fall evenings. Small, structured bags are also very much in vogue right now. The way that puppies are always extra adorable because of their petite size, small handbags are equally precious—and practical. These bags don’t take up much space and will hold your essential items. Bucket bags are really popular right now as well.

Fashionable flats are another one of Maria’s knowledgeable recommendations. She favors Chanel ballet slippers and customers agree—someone bought an adorable pair while I was in the shop! Flats are great in NYC because of all the walking around, but they also can be used to dress up an outfit.

Popular trends often cycle back around and A Second Chance is a perfect spot to shop for vintage looks. If you’re in need of an elegant pearl necklace, classic Chanel bag and a gorgeous silk scarf to complete your ensemble, you should definitely check out the selections available here for a fraction of the retail price.

This customer-focused establishment provides visitors with experiences that are both well informed and memorable. Before my visit to A Second Chance’s Lexington Avenue location, I had never seen a Birkin bag in person—I can now cross that off my Fashion Bucket List! I’ve also been to the SoHo location on several occasions to ogle the handbags. While both locations offer a wide range of luxury wares, the SoHo location has some of the more contemporary pieces.

In honor of Labor Day weekend, A Second Chance is having a special sale in both locations and on the website! From Friday, August 2 through Monday, August 5, visitors can enjoy 10% off of items (including Chanel, Hèrmes and Louis Vuitton!). For those shopping online, use the code LABORDAY16 when you check out to score this great savings.
