South American Eats in Hell’s Kitchen at K Rico

Earlier this week, I got to check out the two-month-old K Rico South American Steakhouse in Hell’s Kitchen, owned by brothers John and Tommy Greco. John brings years of experience as executive chef and owner of NYC’s Philip Marie, Bamboo 52, 123 Burger Shot Beer and Posh, while Tommy mans Hell’s Kitchen lounge The Ritz. Given these impressive resumes, my expectations were high—and I wasn’t disappointed.

The restaurant’s small space includes a backyard area for outdoor seating and a full-length bar. When the weather gets warmer, Greco says they’ll open the doors to the backyard and the front, where they’ll have a few tables out on the sidewalk.

During the event, I tried a slew of hors d’oeuvres, including mini-arepas, steamed mussels and beef empanadas with an aji amarillo aioli—all of which is available on K Rico’s dinner menu. Also on the restaurant’s menu are a variety of steaks, from an 8 oz Filetito to a 48 oz K Rico.

K Rico recently debuted a brunch menu that includes the Hot As Hell’s Kitchen Burger, which requires a waiver to order. Although I’m too heat-sensitive to try the burger, I’d love to taste their eggs Benedict, served with chorizo and a chipotle hollandaise.
