Regency Bar & Grill: Where Luxe Meets Local

Regency Bar & Grill: Where Luxe Meets Local

Power breakfast-ers at daybreak. Beautiful people for Happy Hour. But locavores at mealtime? Well, “yes,” now that Regency Bar & Grill pays respects to New York’s indigenous resources. Tucked into the glam dining room’s sophisticated menu, “The Flavor by Loews Hotels” (a soon-to-roll-out national brand) adds “home-grown” treats like the Neapolitan pizza of Salvatore Olivella: Unique here, the “Diavola” spiced with nduja (Italian sausage) and the “Porcini Truffle” are the city’s only pies with a charcoal-infused “black” crust.

Artisan partners also include Brooklyn Gin (neat or in super-smooth cocktails zinged wth citrus peels and hand-cracked juniper), the Upper East Side’s Bon Vivant patisserie (a “petit four” flight laced with bourbon vanilla, coffee cream, lavender and rose petal) and “decadent” West Village bakery Mah-Ze-Dahr (cookies, cheesecake or seasonal tarts). Any of these “Flavor” items pairs nicely with Chef Catherine Medrano’s shareable starters (like crab cakes or charcuterie), her salads, sides and entrées. Recent dinner highlights range from “simply prepared” king salmon with Brussels sprouts to more complex Barnegat (New Jersey!) scallops with grilled artichokes.

Expect seamless Park Avenue service under the knowing watch of f&b manager Omar Facuseh-Azar, and consider less familiar brews, high-end liquors, well-curated wines and a deep cache of “sipping spirits.” Guests drink and dine within clubby quarters, the lounge zone and main room illuminated by dramatic lights, the spaces defined by dark wood columns, charcoal-gray banquettes and black mirrors. Black-and-white fine art photography creates an embracing, only-in-Manhattan experience.
