Event Alert: The 147th Annual International Exhibition of the American Watercolor Society

The 147th Annual International Exhibition of the American Watercolor Society(AWS) opens today (Tues., April 1) in the newly renovated galleries of the historic Salmagundi Club. The exhibition, which is free and open to the public thru April 20, is one of the premiere watercolor exhibits/competitions in the world. More than 1,200 artists from throughout the U.S. and a dozen foreign countries submitted their work to a panel of jurors, chosen from signature members of the AWS—membership that has included the likes of well-known regionalists Edward Hopper and Charles Burchfield. Of these submissions (one per artist), 138 paintings were selected for the exhibition. Forty paintings from the show are selected for the Traveling Exhibition, which will tour museums and galleries across the country during the next year. If you drive to the venue, it is recommended you plan to park in one of the off-street parking garages on 12th St., btw Fifth Ave. & University Place.
