Catching up on The Real Housewives of New York City Drama

One of my first celebrity encounters happened about seven years ago at a party. When diving for hors d'oeuvres, I bumped arms with The Real Housewives of New York City star Alex McCord. At the time, RHONY was still pretty new and I was only vaguely familiar with the reality TV show. Nonetheless, I spent a few minutes talking to one of its stars and her husband, Simon van Kempen. Alex, Simon and I gabbed about NYC parties, beer and food served on tiny sticks.

After meeting Alex, I was curious about the show and became a casual fan. A few years later, I met her costar Jill Zarin, which again piqued my interest in the shenanigans of these big city ladies.

Fast-forward to a few weeks ago when I was given the opportunity to experience the ultimate show catch up in the form of The Real Housewives of New York City Official Tour. This brand new tour from On Location Tours lets fans see some of the most notable places featured on the series.

On a rainy Friday morning, I met the tour group in front of Tipsy Parson in Chelsea. The downtown restaurant was recently featured on the show as the setting where Jules told Bethenny about her eating disorder. From there, the excited group of passengers, including a mother-daughter duo from Pennsylvania, girlfriends from West Palm Beach, FL and a group of twentysomething coworkers celebrating a colleague’s last day with a stylish sendoff, settled in for our three-and-a-half-hour tour.

Led by our funny guide Melissa, with bus driver Earl at the wheel, we snaked around downtown Manhattan while Melissa pointed out notable sights from the show, including the Dream hotel where Kelly had her Halloween party, Bethenny’s Skinny Girl headquarters and more.

TV screens were placed on the bus that featured recaps of some of the funniest, fiercest and most touching moments from the show. Melissa shared fun facts about the RHONY production and Watch What Happens Live in addition to the cast’s top NYC recommendations (compiled specifically for this tour).

There were a few stops on our journey, which gave us the opportunity to stretch our legs and visit some of the cast’s haunts. Passengers even received discounts at some shops.

I don’t want to give too much away, so check out the RHONY tour. It’s the perfect way to get your reality TV fix.
